Is there no way to temporarily disable Win Firewall Ctrl?

Is there no way to temporarily disable Win Firewall Ctrl?

Postby labornvain » Wed Jan 04, 2017 5:49 pm

I have a few apps that simply will not install while WFC is running (Installers need internet and will fail before I "Enable" them).

Problem is, for the life of me I cannot find a way to just temporarily disable WFC. I literally had to uninstall it.

Turning off Windows Firewall doesn't work either.

Please tell I'm missing something because having to uninstall it and then reinstall/reregister is a real pain.

I'm using Windows 8 version on a Win7 Ultimate 64bit machine.

right-click on WxFC in the taskbar and select mode: enableall or enableunknown. When ready retrun to normal.

PietO is absolutely right.

Windows8FirewallControl:
TrayIcon/RightClick/
Mode:EnableAll - disables the firewall completely

Windows10FirewallControl (additionally)
TrayIcon/RightClick/
Mode: EnableUnknown – enables all the unlisted (yet) applications unconditionally. All the listed applications just follow the applied permissions.
Mode: Enable/DetectUnknown is similar to the previous and detects/prompts/lists the enabled applications additionally.

I know it was like that in v7. But v8 loads a driver. The driver sits there forever. So does enable all trick still apply?

The Mode:* functionality is strictly the same.
The driver is responsible for newly introduced by-name filtering only.
The by-name filtering can be switched off by unchecking Domains/Enable, if you do need that
(There was a minor bug fixed in 8.1.0.22)
